Competition for the mini games in the Cook Islands gets underway later today

After a stunning opening ceremony yesterday the athletes now get down to some serious competition

" A total of eight sporting codes will kick off proceedings. With golf and bowls the most begin with the men and women's pairs and triples. The host Cook Islands have a tough start in squash when the women take on Papua New Guinea. Fiji and Tonga go head to head in netball, while the Cook Islands take on Niue later in the day. Track and field starts with the men 100 metres ocathlon, the women's five thousand metres wraps the days proceedings, the first gold medal is expected to come on the track.
