A lawmaker in American Samoa, Galumalemana Bill Satele, says he doesn't want the government to get into private business.

He was commenting on Governor Togiola Tulafono's plan for the government to buy the Samoa Packing cannery which plans to close ina week with the loss of 2,000 jobs.

Galumalemana, who is also a businessman, has called on the Governor to produce a business plan of the proposed cannery operation.

He says the Governor should not just speak about his plan when he addresses the fono tomorrow but should also present a business plan and identify the company that will operate the cannery.

He said the five million US dollars, which the Governor is seeking, is a lot of money and there's every chance that the venture can fail.
