American Samoa ASPA water safety notice lifted

9:06 pm on 7 October 2009

The island-wide boil water notice for all American Samoa Power Authority drinking water systems has been lifted - a week after the devastating tsunami.

The American Samoa Enviormental Protection Agency says water from ASPA systems is currently safe to drink and the public is not required to boil it before consumption.

The Environmental Protection Agency says it conducted intensive sampling of all ASPA drinking water systems throughout Tutuila and this showed it was free of bacterial contamination.

The agency stresses that homes not connected to ASPA and using village water must continue to boil water before consumption.
