8:23 am on 8 October 2009

The Samoa government has declared a half day public holiday today for mourning and to pay respect for all the victims of the tsunami last Wednesday which killed 143 people and injured more than three hundred.

A government special funeral service will also be held, with thousands expected to attend.

Some of the 117 dead bodies already identified have already been buried by their families but ten bodies will be buried at the government's cemetery at Tafaigata after the mass funeral service.
