9:12 am on 10 October 2009

The Samoan Prime Minister says the country needs to act on lessons learned from last week's deadly tsunami.

143 people have been confirmed dead with another six still missing.

The Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi says everyone in the country has seen the terrible devastation wrought by the tsunami.

He says the country owes it to those who lost their lives to become more vigilant and take every measure possible to avoid further loss of life.

Mr Malielegaoi says if the country takes to heart and acts on the lessons from the disaster, the loss of those who died will not have been in vain.
