Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, is due to receive Solomon Island's highest award, the Star of Solomon Islands at Government House today.

A Government House spokesperson in Honiara says Sir Michael will be amongst a few who have been awarded the honour, which is mostly given to leaders in recognition of outstanding performance in their own countries.

Sir Michael and an eleven member delegation begin a three day visit to Honiara after he and the Solomon's Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua returned from Fiji, where they attended the launch of a book on the life of Fiji's first Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.
