University of Papua New Guinea Campus opens in Solomons

The Prime Ministers of Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea officially opened a University of Papua New Guinea Campus in Honiara in Solomon Islands yesterday.

The ceremony at the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education's Panatina Campus was arranged to coincide with a three-day visit to Honiara by PNG's Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua praised the presence of his PNG counterpart, saying it signified PNG's commitment to partner with Solomon Islands in developing their education sectors.

Dr Sikua said the opening of the Campus is an important step forward in improving access to tertiary education opportunities for Solomon Islanders.
