New Zealand has named career diplomat, Marion Crawshaw, as its high commissioner to Papua New Guinea.

Ms Crawshaw is currently director of the knowledge services division at foreign affairs and has had previous postings in Honiara, Suva, Paris, and Rome.

She was part of the New Zealand high commission team in Solomon Islands during the tense years of ethnic unrest at the beginning of this decade.

She takes up her appointment in mid 2010, replacing Niels Holm, who is returning to Wellington.
