A spokesperson for American Samoa Homeland Security says the tsunami recovery efforts are progressing well.

While the government says 90 percent of the power has been restored in the US territory, ten enormous generators have arrived to boost the electricity supply following the destruction of the Satala Power Plant in the tsunami.

Felise Kaisia, a spokesperson for the American Samoa Homeland Security, Emergency Operations Centre says water has also been completely restored.

He says more than 1,000 people remain in temporary accommodation, but efforts to help them are well underway.

"Not really much because of all the assessment that's been done of all the villages and the houses that were devastated. So right now they are doing the clean up, they are cleaning up the areas while the disaster recovery centre is open for the people that their homes were totally destroyed."

Felise Kaisia says people are also going to the recovery centre to file claims for assistance.
