Tsunami aid accountability call in American Samoa

2:33 pm on 27 October 2009

In American Samoa, watchdog group, Common Cause, has called on Governor Togiola Tulafono to provide an account of the funds donated for tsunami victims.

The vice President of Common Cause, Ben Te'o, says they know the Federal government has donated several million US dollars towards the relief effort in American Samoa.

Mr Te'o also says the public deserves to know how much money has been received and how it's being used.

"An undated total, donations be published either in the paper or on the media so that the people will know how much is being donated by people, organisations and businesses, not only on island but off island."

Ben Te'o says Common Cause is also urging the government to move as quickly as possible to equip the island with an emergency alert system.
