An official of Japan Airlines has expressed concerns about the pending implementation of a new environmental impact fee to be collected from tourists in Palau.

The Executive Officer of Japan Airlines, Katsuaki Suzuki, in a letter to the Palau President Johnson Toribiong, said the new green fee will confuse Japanese tourists who are price sensitive nowadays.

Suzuki asked in the letter whether the green fee can be delayed until later next year to give tour agencies in Japan more time to explain it to their customers.

The new fee will collect US$35 departure tax from tourists starting November 1st.
