A local fishing association has been launched in Solomon Islands with an aim to strengthen the rural fisheries and urban-based links.
The Artisanal Fisher's Association of Solomon Islands association was created with a range of objectives in promoting and shielding the interest to marine and fisheries.
The Solomon Star reports the Association's vice-chairman Tony Matelaomao as saying experience will guide the association and also assist small-scale fishing enterprises to move forward with an objective to strengthen sustainable harvest of fish and marine products.
He says the key reason the association is formed is to get people or rural fishermen organized themselves to fill the gaps.
