Fiji's new Presidents swears in new judges

11:29 am on 6 November 2009

Two new judges and four magistrates have been sworn in by Fiji's new President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Fiji Village says the appointments are expected to ease the work load on the current judges and magistrates.

The website says a lack of magistrates has led to a backlog of cases, with some magistrates having to deal with up to 60 cases per day.

The four magistrates are from Sri Lanka.
