Australia Fiji Business Council condemns Fiji travel sanctions

11:16 am on 16 November 2009

The Australia Fiji Business Council is condemning the travel sanctions placed on Fiji by the New Zealand and Australian governments.

The Fiji Sun reports the Council President, Brian Anderson, saying it had always opposed travel bans because it limits the ability of both the public and private sector from recruiting and training the best available talent.

He says the definition on whom the travel bans apply to must be clear and unambiguous.

Mr Anderson says it dilutes the talent available to business and creates uncertainty.

He says business and investment will not develop when there is uncertainty of freedom of movement.

The council is calling on both Australia and Fiji to set aside their differences and re-engage to find a resolution to the current impasse of tit for tat politics.
