Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, has met with the special envoy of the president of Taiwan, taking the occasion to reiterate his invitation to Taiwanese investors to join in the development of the second LNG project in the country.

The newspaper, the national, reports Sir Michael as saying the discussions were fruitful, and identified areas of co-operation that will further enhance the two countries' commercial relations.

He says he briefed Lien Chan Lien on a second LNG project that is being developed.

Sir Michael says he hopes the Taiwanese government can assist in facilitating the speedy conclusion of an appropriate sales and purchasing agreement between the developers and Taiwan.

He says the LNG project would underpin the long-term economic well-being of PNG and at the same time provide the means to boost trade relations between PNG and Taiwan.
