Fiji's interim PM meets EU officials in Brussels

11:41 am on 21 November 2009

Fiji's interim Prime Minister has met with officials from the European Union in Brussels.

The meeting was the first following the EU's decision in September to freeze millions of dollars in development until March 2010.

Commodore Frank Bainimarama and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola discussed the prospects for progress.

That discussion included the interim Government's initiative concerning a National Dialogue Forum, freedom of expression and more generally the interim Government's planned reform programmes.

In a short statement, the EU says the meeting was cordial and

constructive and hopefully inaugurates a process, which could lead to formal consultations between Fiji and the EU.
