A Fiji poultry farmer has been awarded an international Food and Agriculture award.

Imam Ali began his duck farm 15 years ago in Wainadoi, Suva with only five ducks.

Mr Ali says his farm has grown to 1,500 ducks and 10 employees and each week 200 are killed and supplied to supermarkets and restaurants.

He says he travelled to Bangkok to receive the award, which he had never imagined winning.

"I never think in my life as a small businessman I can get this kind of business award. So I am very thankful that Thailand government called me there and support me and pay my travelling and everything."

Imam Ali says with support from the Ministry of Agriculture, he is planning to extend his poultry shed.
