The Vanuatu government says it will provide free stationery to all primary schools next year.

The education minister, Charlot Salwai, has signed a contract with a private company, Total Export, to supply the stationery at a cost of 740,000 US dollars.

Until this year, parents have had to pay for stationery.

Under the policy of free education, government will allocate 67 US dollars per child at primary schools.

All schools have opened accounts at Vanuatu National bank branches to receive the funds.
