Guadalcanal Plains Plantation Limited faces strike action

10:08 am on 5 December 2009

The Solomon Islands' only palm oil company, Guadalcanal Plains Plantation Limited, is facing strike action from its staff in three days.

GPPOL has only three days left of the 7 day-notice issued by the Solomon Islands National Union of Workers.

The Director of the Solomons National Union of Workers, Tony Kagovai, says the company continues to refuse to recognise SINUW as the legitimate and legal body to represent employees on matters of terms and conditions of services and their welfare.

He says GPPOL is also refusing to settle with the union over its workers claims.

The strike notice has been effective as of last Monday, but the strike action will start on Tuesday.
