March planned in New Caledonia in bid to free jailed unionists

12:24 pm on 18 December 2009

A march is being planned in New Caledonia tomorrow to push for the liberation of the jailed USTKE unionists.

The local newspaper in Noumea says the silent march, which will be organised by a support group, is also to denounce the conditions at the territory's jail.

The group says the Camp-Est prison is a place which produces delinquents.

The USTKE leaders were imprisoned for their role in the violence at Noumea's airport in May.
