In Samoa, the destruction of tourist accommodation on Upolu has led to more visitors going to Savaii island.

The Samoa Observer reports that hotel operators on Savaii are seeing an increase in bookings.

One hotel at Salelologa says bookings have jumped 30 per cent as holidaymakers look for an alternative to the now demolished Lalomanu.

The manager of the hotel says it could get better with Christmas and New Year's around the corner.

She says they have been operating at 50 per cent occupancy.

And another one resort reports that they are fully booked throughout Christmas and New Years.
