The Parliamentary Review Committee on the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands has revealed that most of the underlying causes of the ethnic conflict in the country have not been addressed.

According to the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation, a UN report on the unrest has identified five themes as core issues affecting peace, conflict and development in Solomon Islands.

They are land and the clash between traditional and non-traditional authority structures.

It says land is fundamental to Melanesian people's identity, group allegiances, spiritual beliefs and livelihoods.

The other themes were government services, public resources and information, economic opportunity and law and justice.
