College of the Marshall Islands gets new president

6:32 am on 28 December 2009

A new president has been named at the College of the Marshall

Islands to replace the retiring president, Wilson Hess, who is credited with restoring the institution's United States-academic accreditation.

The Majuro-based two-year college was on the verge of losing its U.S. accreditation and the $4 million in U.S. federal grants that come with it in late 2005.

In February this year, the U.S.-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges restored full accreditation on CMI after about seven years of probationary status.

Mr Hess's replacement is Dr. Kenneth Woodbury who has previsouly worked in Florida, Pennsylvania and Maine in the US.
