Samoa bans use of mobile phone while driving

The Samoa government has announced a ban on the use of mobile phone while driving.

The move will be introduced by way of a new Road Traffic regulation which will become effective next year when the head of state will endorse the new change.

According to a Cabinet decision the regulation will stop drivers from

answering and making a call as well as writing, sending or reading a text message.

It will also ban turning the phone on or off as well as operating it for any other function such as holding the mobile phone to or near to, the ear whether or not engaged in a phone call or phone conversation.
