Fiji interim PM urges people to break free from past

Fiji's interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has used his New Year address to call on the people of Fiji to break free of the past.

He has urged people to join his efforts to modernise Fiji by standing up to what he calls the old elite.

In a New Year's message, Commodore Bainimarama said were some people who were still working behind the scenes to undermine the coming together of people.

Fiji Live reports the interim Prime Minister as saying that modernising and reforming mean his government will focus on empowering all Fijians.
