The Fiji interim regime has extended the Public Emergency Regulation put in place in April for another 30 days.
The Permanent Secretary for Information, Lt Colonel Neumi Leweni, has confirmed the extension on local radio, but says the restrictions may be lifted soon.
Under the regulations, all media outlets are subject to censorship.
Police, military and public servants have the powers to stop events they deem to be a threat to the country's security.
Lt Colonel Leweni has told the Fijivillage website that the media censorship will end as soon as the interim government's so-called Media Decree is in place.
