Air Fiji employees hope for Tuvalu help

1:53 pm on 8 January 2010

Fiji's Transport Workers Union general secretary, Kamlesh Kumar, says the government of Tuvalu has agreed to look into compensation claims of former Air Fiji employees.

The airline, in which Tuvalu has been a major shareholder, ceased operations last year.

Mr Kumar says the former workers are left with little or no choice and have to seek compensation which includes outstanding wages.

He says the workers need something as a buffer before they embark on alternative employment.

Mr Kumar says they have been assured by the Tuvalu transport minister that he will be looking into their claims.
