American Samoa's Togiola due to deliver State of the Territory address

2:25 pm on 11 January 2010

American Samoa's governor Togiola Tulafono will deliver tomorrow his annual State of the Territory Address at a joint Fono session, during the official opening of the 3rd Regular Session of the 31st Legislature.

The chief executive is required by law to deliver the annual address in January each year, touching on issues such as the territory's economy, government finances, health care and other recent developments.

One issue that is expected to be covered by the Governor is the administration's five million US dollar bill to purchase assets of the now closed COS Samoa Packing cannery that was put on hold last year by the Fono.

Togiola has said that the administration plans to continue to ask the Fono for a favourable decision over the bill as he believes reopening the facility would provide more jobs to the territory.
