The union representing doctors in Papua New Guinea is in discussions with the Department of Health over an industrial agreement.
Last week, doctors threatened to resign en masse by yesterday if the government failed to sign a memorandum of understanding over the doctors' salary structure, which was aborted in November.
The National Doctors Union is now meeting the Department of Health on the MOU but no details have been released.
The President of the doctors' union Dr Kauve Pomat said doctors wish to break free from what they believe is the suppression and abuse of the single colonial salary structure, a system they think doesn't recognise professions but instead makes the administrators the highest paid public servants.
