Tonga PSA says government fee hikes are unreasonable

The Public Service Association in Tonga says a government hike in fees for vehicle registration and licensing fees is unreasonably and ridiculously high.

The Government introduced the increases last week without public consultation.

The Secretary General of the PSA Mele Amanaki says the amount is not justifiable.

"These increases is according to our knowledge and our calculation is approximately an increase by 300 percent. According to them this is the first fee increase in ten years time. But in our view it's too high and it affects our members a lot."

Mele Amanaki says the PSA has submitted a letter of complaint to the Acting Minister of Transport in hope of deferring the implementation of the fee increases.
