Former Fiji PM in court over corruption charges

Fiji's ousted prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, returns to court this morning over five charges of abusing his office.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption brought the charges in 2008, and the case has been ongoing since then.

The charges relate to events dating back as far as 1992.

Mr Qarase maintains his innocence, and says a Queens Counsel from Australia could be hired to join his legal team once a trial date has been announced.
