A new investigation has opened up in Fiji over the possible involvement of local business people in people smuggling and trafficking.

According to Fiji Times, West Crime Officer, Luke Rawalai, has confirmed the investigations.

Mr Rawalai says through movement and association, investigators had identified several business people believed to be working with international agents in people trafficking.

He says after tracing the travel patterns of travellers, it was discovered forged documents were secured once they arrived in foreign countries.

Mr Rawalai says from there, they travel to Fiji which is a transit point before going to their destinations, adding that it's all planned.
