A Catholic Church forum in Indonesia is aiming to heighten awareness of the rights of indigenous peoples, especially in Papua and Kalimantan, where exploitation of natural resources is rampant.

The Jakarta Post says a public seminar last Friday marked the start of a six-month process to try and recover the rights of the indigenous people to their resources.

The forum's chairman, Monsignor Agustinus Agus, says they also aim to enhance the public's understanding of the indigenous people's real conditions.

He says the group plans to seek national and international support for the cause.
