Fiji's Permanent Secretary for Information, Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni, is denying reports that the country's interim prime minister plans to retire by 2014.

The Fiji Times reports that Frank Bainimarama made the statement about his planned retirement while visiting the village of Dawadamu in the province of Ra.

Commodore Bainimarama seized power in the 2006 coup and has set 2014 as a date to hold elections.

He called on villagers in Dawadamu to support the government that will come into power in 2014 in the same manner he had been received.
