Construction is soon to begin on three new police stations in Vanuatu.

They are part of a plan to establish eight new stations across the country, including Low Island, Sola, Malo, Pentecost and Santo to help resolve a lack of police presence in remote areas.

The Police Commissioner Joshua Bong says through a capital city building project, AusAid has given over 153 thousand US dollars towards three stations, two in the north and one in the south.

But he says the police are lacking funds for the remaining five stations.

"I need to seek funds from different aid donors. And of course the city capital city project will be having a business meeting on the twenty fifth of this month which is a project coordinating committee meeting which will also enable me to seek some extra funds for the other police posts."

Joshua Bong says the project is expected to be completed in five years.
