The American Samoa government has made a huge payment on it's outstanding utility bill.

ASG's utility debt reached some 5 million US dollars last year and later decreased to close to 4 million dollars by the end of 2009.

But the American Samoa Power Authority says the government last month made a 1.2 million dollar payment, bringing down it's debt to 2.5 million dollars.

ASPA acting board chairman, Asaua Fuimaono, says its land lease with the government at Tafuna village will provide an off-set for ASG in an amount over 600,000 dollars.

According to ASPA records the new utility bill for ASG comes to 428,000 dollars.

ASPA records further reveals that as of the beginning of the month the utility provider's accounts receivable is 6.55 million dollars.
