Lawyers for eight men jailed for plotting to kill Fiji's interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, plan to lodge appeals against the convictions and sentences.
The group was convicted at the High Court in Suva on Wednesday, and were yesterday given prison sentences ranging from three to seven years.
A barrister defending six of the accused, Iqbal Khan, says all three lawyers were shocked at the length of the sentences.
Mr Khan believes there are numerous grounds for an appeal, which he plans to lodge soon.
"Most likely Monday or Tuesday. There are several grounds, at the moment we are discussing there maybe more than eight to ten grounds for our appeal based on direction and misdirections. I am really confident we have really good prospects of success."
