18 Methodist church leaders in Fiji in court for alleged emergency law breaches

4:10 pm on 8 March 2010

18 Fiji Methodist Church ministers and other church officials appeared in the Suva Magistrate court this morning charged with breaching the Public Emergency Regulations last year.

The Fiji Village website says the prosecution made an application for the charges to be consolidated with those against nine other Methodist Church ministers whose case is on-going from last year.

It's alleged the 18 were at a meeting of the Church's standing committee last July, in contravention of the Public Emergency Regulations.

The case has been adjourned until the 23rd of this month when a plea is also expected to be taken.
