Residents and tourists looking to travel between Saipan and Tinian in the Northern Marianas will have to rely solely on air transportation for six months, starting from next week.

The Saipan Tribune reports that Tinian Shipping and Transportation Incorporated's ferry service between Saipan and Tinian will be temporarily shut down for repairs required by the American Bureau of Shipping's regulations.

Tinian representative Trenton Conner says the suspension of the ferry service is a major concern for the casino and tourism industry.
