A resident on Rennell in Solomon Islands says Cyclone Ului has flattened trees in front of his home.
The Cyclone has been near stationary in recent hours at 195 nautical miles southwest of Rennell with maximum wind gusts at its centre of more than 230 kilometres an hour.
A cyclone warning is still in force for Rennell and Bellona, while a cyclone watch applies to Guadalcanal, Makira, and Western and Russell Islands.
Johnson Teika, the principal of Rennell's Newplace Secondary School, says winds of up to 90 kilometres an hour are still expected there, with heavy showers.
Mr Teika says there's been some damage.
"There's leaves and banana trees and some fallen trees close to our road system at the moment. I think the rain is a real threat to us."
Johnson Teika says the main electricity generator on the island is still running.
