Early Nauru election called for April 24th
Updated at 7:16 pm on 22 March 2010
Nauru is to go to the polls on April the 24th.
The Speaker, Shadlog Bernicke, advised the returning officer at the weekend that voting would be on that date, after the President Marcus Stephen last week ordered the dissolution of parliament, just two years since the last election.
It comes after a series of unsuccessful opposition attempts to dislodge the Stephen government through motions of no confidence.
The government says the opposition's motions have stopped the parliament from functioning properly.
