An independent review of the operations at the coconut oil processing plant in the Marshall Islands is underway.
The review is expected to provide a roadmap for improving operations and expanding products made from coconut oil, including use of the locally produced oil as a biofuel.
The Majuro-based Tobolar Copra Processing Plant is the only coconut factory in the north Pacific, producing coconut oil for export and soap products for the local market.
Tobolar board Chairman, Jemi Nashion, an assistant secretary of the Ministry of Finance, says a draft report from the Hawaii-based company Oceanic Incorporated is now being reviewed by Tobolar's board.
He says they also need to improve the buying price for copra.
