Guam's leadership is confident it can spend 83 million US dollars in education funding from the federal government in the next two years.

The Department of Education, and the University of Guam and Cuam Community College are to receive the money under President Barack Obama's Stimulus Package.

Shawn Gumataotao, a spokesman for Governor Felix Camacho, says a provision of the grant is that they only have two years to spend the money.

"There might be some misconception that we can't, we beg to differ. There is a lot of jobs that will be created and we believe that there is the capacity to spend this money over the next two years. I think that we've worked very hard for this and we're very excited about what this will do to impact education."

Shawn Gumataotao says there is 664 projects that will get funding, including lab equipment, infrastructure improvement, and the modernisation of facilities at the university.
