Call centres planned for American Samoa

Blue Sky Communications is considering setting up small call centres in American Samoa.

At a hearing yesterday, the House Vice Speaker, Laolagi Savali, asked why the territory is not seeing the full benefits of the fibre optic cable, such as call centres.

The company's CEO and head of the American Samoa/Hawaii Cable, Adolfo Montenegro, says he wants to show that American Samoa now has the technology for a call centre industry.

"Given that the governor has supported an initiative that I have, whic will build a 10 seat call centre, very small, to demonstrate how it works, how do we train the people here, so that we can demonstrate we have the technology, we have the capabilities and our people can do the job."
