Tribesmen in Solomon Islands invade town in retaliation for a killing

An army of tribesmen from the Western Province island of Rondova in Solomon Islands, invaded the town of Munda on Friday night in apparent retaliation for the killing of a Rendova man.

The Solomon Star reports the victim died in Gizo hospital after he was allegedly bashed at a Munda bar and restaurant owned by a Chinese man.

The restaurant was ransacked and parts of the hospital chapel were destroyed during the retaliation.

A source told the paper hundreds of people armed themselves with knives, axes, iron bars and stones after arriving in canoes.

Members of the police Rapid Response Unit in Honiara were deployed to Munda to quell the tension.

Munda Police have arrested and charged a 30-year-old man in relation to the incident.
