Pro-democracy MPs in Tonga are pushing for the removal of a judge whose reappointment was a factor in the resignation of the Attorney General last week.
Justice Robert Shuster was re-appointed last month by the Government without input from the Attorney General or the Judicial Services Commission.
The Government has also indicated Mr Shuster is being considered as the country's new Chief Justice.
This comes amid concerns over Mr Shuster's performance as a judge, with the Tonga Law Society questioning his competence and understanding of the laws of Tonga.
Our correspondent, Mateni Tapueluelu, says the pro-democracy MPs intend calling on Parliament to impeach Mr Shuster.
"They are concerned about the rule of law in Tonga. They have quoted a lengthy series of judgments made by Shuster that were all overturned by the Court of Appeal. And they are quoting certain comments made by the Court of Appeal that imply Shuster is not a competent justice."
