The temporary workers hired in American Samoa for disaster recovery efforts will need to undergo a work assessment before getting their final pay cheques.
Governor Togiola Tulafono says about 1,700 temporary workers hired under the federally funded NEG, the National Emergency Grant programme, ended their work on April 30th.
Tulafono says these workers are now moving to assessment and transitional services.
He says the rest of the NEG workers will transition out of the program throughout this month and into the early part of next month.
Togiola says he has been informed by the American Samoa Department of Human Resource that the temporary worker won't get that final pay cheque unless the individual completes the assessment.
Human Resources administered the 24.85 million US dollar NEG grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, to employ temporary workers for clean up and recovery efforts following last September's tsunami.
