Regulator cuts electricity prices in Vanuatu

The Vanuatu Utilities Regulatory Authority has cut the tariff the local provider, UNELCO, can charge its small domestic customers - those who use less than 60 kilowatts a month - by forty nine percent.

The tariff changes also mean a price reduction of around seven percent for most electricity users.

This comes after Government concern at the high price of electricity led to a full tariff review by the URA.

The Authority's decision comes after a 12 month information gathering process, which CEO, Carmine Piantedosi, says it was the first full review of tariffs in more than 70 years.
