The World Health Organisation is offering Pacific communities 150 thousand US dollars in awards for action aimed at solving pressing health problems.

Three grants of $50 thousand dollars each will be made available every two years as part of WHO's Healthy Islands initiative.

The awards were launched at the first meeting of the Healthy Islands forum in Geneva at the weekend.

WHO says the awards are designed to identify best practises and promising programmes that could be replicated among Pacific Island countries.

Pacific Island health ministers and senior officials have been attending the forum which is aimed at sharing information and experiences for better health in the Pacific.
