Former Samoan RAMSI officer sentenced over death of Solomons woman

The Solomon Islands High Court has sentenced a former Samoan RAMSI officer to three and a half years in jail for the death of a young woman in 2008.

Misi Matamu had been charged with reckless driving causing death and reckless driving causing danger to another person, which resulted in the death of Hilda Ilabae from Malaita in June of 2008.

Matamu pleaded guilty to both charges last month.

The Solomon Star reports that Judge Rex Foukona sentenced him to three and a half years for the first count and six months for the second count which he will serve concurrently in Samoa.
